Utah Mom Delivers Twins on Side of Interstate
Lynette Hales, 39, a woman from Utah, had a unique birth experience when she gave birth to twins on the side of Highway I-80, about 25 miles east of Wendover. Not only did she have to undergo the pain of labor without proper medical assistance, she also had to fight to retrieve one of her babies moments after he was delivered in a car.
Hales was just 30 weeks pregnant when she gave birth to her sons; they were three months premature. On Sunday morning, she woke up with unexpected contractions and along with her friend, left to Nevada along the I-80. Realizing they wouldn't make it to the hospital, they stopped in the middle of the road, where they were left stranded in the desert with barren salt flats, reports Daily Mail.
They immediately contacted 911 and with the help of the emergency operator, Lynette delivered her twins by the side of the road. Moments after the delivery of the first child, she realized that the boy was not breathing, and performed CPR to bring him back to life. The second child was born half an hour later with the aid of the state troopers. The twin boys now have an interesting tale to tell later in life.
"They're such miracles," Hales was quoted as saying in Deseret News. "And they're fighters. They're strong. They're going to be a couple of amazing boys."
The two boys, weighing about 3 pounds each, were due Aug. 11. The kids have been named J.J and A.J. Lynette along with her children was taken to the Intermountain Medical Center in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray by air ambulance.
The twins are most likely to remain in the intensive care unit for weeks but are doing well. On Monday Lynette addressed the news media at IMC along with the Utah Highway Patrol trooper who assisted her, Jeff her husband, Jim her friend who helped her deliver the kids and her sister Monique, according to a news release.
