There's a happy ending for a heroic pup her lost her snout and upper jaw while saving the lives of to young girls in the Philippines.

Doctors reported that the dog, named Kabang, will be headed back to her owner in the Philippines following a treatment at the University of California, Davis verterinary hospital, according to UC Davis veterinary professor Frank Verstraete. According to reports, the doctors performed surgery to heal her wounds and reconstruct parts of her face that had been damaged in the accident.

"She's a very, very happy, functional dog, and that is all that we were after," Verstraete said, according to BBC News.

Both the dog's snout and upper jaw were sheared off in December 2011 when she jumped in front of a motorcycle in the Philippines. She saved the lives of her owner's daughter and niece, who were apparently in the path of oncoming traffic.

As veterinarians in the Philippines were unable to treat the injuries, a nurse in Buffalo, N.Y. was able to raise enough money to bring the dog out here to treat the injuries.

Reports indicate that doctors took skin from Kabang's cheeks, neck and forehead to cover up scarred areas that were exposed on her face during the March surgery, according to Verstraete.

She is expected to be back home on Thursday. The surgery is expected to be $20,000, according to various reports.
