Listeria Outbreak Linked to Wisconsin Cheese, One Dead
A listeria outbreak has been linked to cheese that killed one person and sickened four others, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Allegedly, one of the cases was a pregnant woman who suffered a miscarriage from the incident.
The FDA reports that the listeriosis is linked to Les Freres cheese distributed by Crave Brothers Farmstead Classic, a Wisconsin producer. The FDA also adds that all those who were infected were infect by the same strain of listeriosis.
Accoridng to CNN, two cases were in Minnesota, both involving older adults who were hospitalized following ingestion of the product, according to the Minnesota Health and Agriculture departments. Other states involved were Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, according to various reports.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that Listeriosis is a serious infection that can be caused by eating food contaminated by bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, new borns and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms that show a sign of infection include gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, fever and muscle aches. They may also include headaches, a stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance or even convulsions.
