NASA's Response to Dexter,7, Who Expressed His Wish to Go To Mars Has Become an Internet Sensation

Many children are extremely curious about outer space. And it is not unusual for children to aspire to become astronauts. A 7-year-old British boy Dexter, did something unusual to express this wish, he wrote to NASA wanting to be a part of a mission to Mars. To his astonishment he received a reply along with some gifts.

In order to turn his dream into reality he sent a letter to NASA (his future employer!).  Dexter wrote expressing his wish to be a part of the mission to Mars but grieved over the fact that he was too young to experience a trip to the Red Planet

His handwritten letter reads: "Dear NASA, My name is Dexter I heard that you are sending two people to Mars and I would like to come but I'm 7." He asked for guidance on how to become an astronaut as he wanted to be a part of future missions to Mars.

NASA was kind enough to reply to his letter and advised him to study hard and that one fine day he would be one of the pioneers that will be guiding the world's activities in order to better understand our Earth as well as exploring space.

Dexter was astonished to receive such an encouraging note from NASA . Along with a response letter the space agency sent the aspiring astronaut extra information about the Red Planet along with some amazing gifts in order to support him in his dreams.

Dexter's mother, Katrina Anderson, posted both Dexter's handwritten letter and NASA's response on Reddit and since then this news has generated a massive online buzz.

Lauren Worley, NASA press secretary, claimed that the letter was sent from NASA's Office of Public Inquiries, which generally replies to thousands of public queries each year on several topics.

"NASA is working to send humans farther into space than ever before, first to an asteroid and on to Mars," Worley was quoted in Mashable.com.  "Perhaps one of these young writers will be among the first astronauts to set foot on another planet."

Responding to the original Reddit thread, a NASA employee stated that NASA appreciated such letters as it highlighted the fact that they were doing fine work.

Dexter's mom said, "I was actually trying to keep him from being disappointed if he didn't get a response, I thought you guys would just be too busy. This sort of thing means the world to children and keeps their imagination and faith in the industry alive."

Hope that this push from NASA will help Dexter move farther than he imagines.
