Busch Gardens Tampa celebrated the birth of two baby reticulated giraffes that were born last month.

The two giraffe calves, one male and one female, were born earlier this summer and are out in the park's 65 acre Serengeti Plain habitat for public viewing.

According to the park officials, the male calf that weighs 188 pounds and stretches to a height of 6 feet was born to Cupid a 15-year-old giraffe. This unnamed calf was the seventh one for Cupid and was born on 11 June. Another female calf was born to 18-year-old Tesa on June 19. The newly born female calf that weighs 45 pounds and stands 5 feet 8 inches tall is Tesa's sixth calf.

The two bundles of joys were seen standing within an hour of birth and within two hours were nursing.

The gestation period for giraffes, the tallest mammals on Earth, is between 14-15 months. The females give birth to calves standing.

A male giraffe stands close to 18 feet tall and female up to 16 feet. The reticulated giraffe that is also called as the Somali giraffe is one of the nine subspecies native to Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. They have distinct neck patterns with brown orange spots and thick white lines.

If you plan on having a closer look at these newly born giraffe calves then reserve a Serengeti Safari.
