Third Adult LA Porn Star Allegedly Tests Positive for HIV
A third U.S. porn star has allegedly tested positive for HIV this week, according to health officials.
Sources have not yet released the identity of the actor, yet a positive test was confirmed by a doctor at a health facility used by the porn industry, according to an industry trade group.
"While we don't have evidence to suggest an on-set transmission as opposed to a transmission from non-industry (off-camera) related activity, we are taking every measure to determine the source and to protect the performer pool," Joanne Cachapero, membership director of the trade group, the Free Speech Coalition, according to Reuters. However, she notes that the group was uncertain whether the infected actor contracted the virus during the shoot.
It was this past month that adult actress Cameron Bay, 28, and Rod Daily 32, (both referred to by their stage names) came out as HIV positive. According to the Los Angeles News, the two announced that they had been dating for about a year.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, an advocacy group that has pushed for the mandatory use of condoms in Los Angeles porn shoots, believe that this last test of the unidentified actor show that the industry isn't doing enough to protect its performers.
A moratorium on the community may be called for the second time. What do you think?
Human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV/AIDS weakens a person's ability to fight infections. It is contracted through unprotected sex or needle sharing. An HIV test confirms diagnosis. Medications may suppress the virus and delay the onset of AIDS, according to WebMD.
