Baby Sunscreen Recalled: Potential Contamination Linked to Products
Keeping your child safe from the sun's harmful UV rays can be a difficult process, especially if little ones are reluctant to wear skin safety products. Finding the best and safest product for your loved ones can also be confusing, and a recent recall of children's sunscreen due to potential contamination doesn't make it any easier deciding what to pick.
Badger baby and children's 4-ounce SPF 30 Baby Sunscreen Lotion and one lot of its 4-ounce SPF 30 Kids Suncreen Lotion is currently being recalled after various tests showed three types of disease-causing bacteria and fungi. The New Hampshire company that makes both natural and organic body care products is allegedly recalling 30,000 tubes of sunscreen for babies and children due to the following contaminates, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Candida parapsilosis and Acremonium fungi.
Though the lots required testing before sale, NBC News notes that routine re-testing showed that several of the products carried preservatives that "had been compromised," according to Badger founder and chief executive Bill Whyte.
"In our 18-year history, this voluntary recall is a first. We continue to conduct rigorous testing and are taking steps to ensure this doesn't happen in the future," he said, via a statement.
The affected lots include the following, courtesy of the company.

As these sunscreen products can be found online and at major retailers, pharmacies and independent food co-ops, various consumers state that the products should not be used and may be returned to the point of purchase for a full refund, according to the FDA.
