Face it. Gaming on smartphones can sometimes be a tedious task as gamers struggle to play many traditional games that would be better played with physical buttons. Enter Nintendo and its interest in joining in the niche of smartphone accessory makers who are creating controllers for smartphones.
Nintendo has a track record of creating excellent games with high worldwide acceptance and is now preparing itself to bring its titles to the smartphone arena. While current and lined-up offerings don't necessarily require a physical controller, the clamor for the company's other titles to be available on smartphones might necessitate a physical controller for better playability. The question was brought up in the 76th annual shareholder's meeting.
Other games up for smartphone integration include Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing.
When prompted with the question whether the company would give in to the clamor to bring more action game titles, General Manager of the Entertainment Planning and Development Division, Shinya Takahashi said, "Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves [emphasis added]."
The game changer for Nintendo's decision would be how the games will be crafter for the smartphone.
"Nintendo's way of thinking is to look at whether action games are really not impossible (without a physical controller for smart device applications) to create and how we can make it happen to create such a game," he added.
The possible development of more smartphone-friendly titles opens up the likelihood for smartphone gamers to have a new experience when playing old titles like Zelda and Mario.
Nintendo promises that it will continue innovating and will still develop new games that don't rely on traditional controllers, imitating the success of their first smartphone game Miitomo.
Other innovations that Nintendo is looking into includes virtual reality, with the company already researching both VR and AR to make the device safer to use.
