Scientists are nervous of what might the newly elected president will do to the environment. Here are some reasons why the newly elected president, Donald Trump, will cause damage to the environment.
During the campaign of Donald Trump, he said that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese. So scientists now are analyzing the damages that Trump can do with the environment today. Here are some examples of what the damages can be, according to Business Insider.
Backing out in the Paris Agreement: Donald Trump wants to denounce the accord of the historic agreement. The Paris Agreement stated that it has been agreed that the 103 countries will work together and fight the rising of the global temperature of 2 degrees Celsius. The pledge of the United States is to reduce the greenhouse emission by 26 to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025, according to Economic Times.
Killing the Clean Power Plan: President Obama posted the clean Power Plan as a national regulation. The fate of this plan relies on the Supreme Court, as the court voted to delay its rollout until the appeals process has been completely achieved. Meanwhile, Donald Trump plans to abolish the Clean Power Plan. However, the president and CEO of Climate Reality Project said that it is not that easy to swipe out the project.
Cut all federal spending on clean energy: Donald Trump has promised that he will cut all federal government funds that are related to clean energy. He shared that the effort already spent over $100 billion in the span of 8 years.
However, the U.S. has pledged to share money to an International fund to support poorer countries in reducing their carbon pollution. A senior legislative representative of environmental organization Greenpeace told the Business Insider that it would be odd for them to basically require taxes to go up just because it is renewable energy.
Trump campaigned on a platform of decreasing taxes for individuals and corporations.
