Collectively called "Pottermore Presents," these books will combine short stories from the Pottermore website, at the same time showcasing new works from the renowned author. The trio of books will be launched exclusively as e-books, and will be released beginning September 6, less than a week after the term starts at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It is unfortunate for fans of the printed word that the books - despite being around 10,000 words in length - would only be available digitally, as Rowling and Pottermore currently don't have plans for physical releases. On the upside, they are available at budget price - only $3 each, as noted by Wired.
The first book in the series, is called "Short Stories from Hogwarts: Of Power, Politics, and Pesky Poltergeists." It will explore the "darker roots" of Harry's world, exploring the origins of the series' most-hated teacher, Dolores Umbridge, and even touching on the relationship of a young Voldemort and his teacher, Horace Slughorn. Then for those who are wondering how the Azkaban Prison came to be, the book will also touch on its history.
The second book, "Short Stories from Hogwarts: Of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies," will touch on the back stories of the "colorful staff of Hogwarts" so fans of Professor Minerva McGonagall and Professor Remus Lupin will finally know their stories.
Finally, the third book, called "Hogwarts: and Incomplete and Unreliable Guide," will reveal secrets from the castle itself - and we'll probably know if the Fred and George Weasley actually found all the secret passages and rooms in the castle.
These books are not the first in-universe short stories from the author. She also previously published "Tales of Beedle the Bard," which influenced the events of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which will be on the big screen by November, and "Quidditch Through the Ages," which, like "Fantastic Beasts," is presented as Hogwarts textbook. Time noted that the books are now available for pre-order.
