Google unveiled its first Daydream- the ready VR headset- Daydream view priced at $79 at the much-awaited gadget extravaganza that took place yesterday, 04 October, in San Francisco. The headset will conveniently turn your Google phone into a virtual reality.

Google had first announced this new mobile VR platform named Daydream back in May at the Google I/O. The concept does not have any buttons or embedded sensors and needs Daydream-optimized mobile handsets, such as the Pixel phone announced at the San Francisco event. It automatically converts the mobiles into the VR mode as soon as they are inserted into the headset.

Audiences that hoped that Google will bring out a device with a quantum leap towards the next generation virtual world may be liitle disappointed with the features of Daydream View because its focus lies more on wider user accessibility than the cutting-edge features that are present in other VR headsets.

The target for Google's Daydream is majorly the average smartphone user and not the VR fans. In order to achieve this, and strike a chord with the mass targeted audience, Google has tried to pick up all the things that have worked previously for a mobile VR including 360 games and photos, 360 videos and then presented the entire project as a new invention.

The search giant did not make any attempts of shipping the concept of VR killer app. Instead, it seemed interested in advertising the Cardboard+ experience and believed that it will be enough to woo the prospective buyers of Pixel to pay an additional $79 for their Daydream View.

Google has also rolled out a set of specifications regarding the processor speed and display quality that needs to be met by any phone manufacturer that wants to be certified as "Daydream Ready". Pixel and Pixel XL are going to be the first models to receive this certification.

According to Gizmodo, the Daydream View headset has been designed to be lightweight and super soft. It uses soft, breathable, microfiber fabrics that are often found in clothing and athletic wear. Google says the VR headset is 30 percent lighter than all other headsets that use mobile VRs. The Daydream View appears to be one of the best designed headsets, but speculations about its software's competency with other consoles such as Oculus and Steam are high.
