Samsung Gear S3 Release Date Update, Latest News: Smartwatch’s Battery Life Far Better Than Apple Watch 2?

While, Samsung's recently announced Gear S3 smartwatch is yet to make it to the market shelves, tech enthusiasts have already started comparing it with Apple Watch 2. Notably, the tech giant hasn't disclosed the Samsung Gear S3 official release date and pricing information yet.

According to GSMArena, UK retailer MobileFun has already put the Gear S3 smartwatch up for pre-orders. Both the Classic and Frontier variants of the smartwatch have been listed with a price tag of $450 (£350 or €400) with a three week shipping timeframe.

The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch has been equipped with some interesting specs and features which makes the device stand out from its competitors. Notably, the Gear S2 successor is the first device to connect to higher-speed LTE networks coming from the tech giant. Available in three different variants- Classic, Frontier, and Frontier LTE- the Samsung Gear S3 is less dependent on the smartphone and enable users to send text messages, stream music from Spotify and track locations directly.

It is to be noted that the Classic and Frontier Gear S3 models come with the same specs. The only difference between the two is their physical look and design. While, the Classic smartwatch variant gives a luxury watch feel with a stainless steel body and rotating bezel, the Frontier Gear S3 variant has a comparatively tough and rugged exterior look. The third Samsung Gear S3 Frontier LTE variant, as the name suggests, offers high-speed wireless Internet connectivity.

All the three wearable devices features a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 resolution, Gorilla Glass SR+ screen protection, Samsung's Exynos 7270 dual 1GHz processor, Tizen OS, 768MB RAM, 4GB of storage, contactless Samsung Pay, IP68 water resistance certification, 4G LTE connectivity and built-in GPS. A light sensor, a heart-rate monitor, an accelerometer, a barometer, an altimeter and a speedometer are also on board.

The Samsung Gear S3 is expected to give a tough fight to Apple Watch 2 when it gets released. Samsung claims that its next smartwatch will offer up to four-days of battery life as compared to 18-hours of battery life offered by Apple Watch 2. As far as pricing is concerned, the Samsung Gear S3 is expected to come with a price tag of around $450. The Apple Watch 2 comes for a starting retail price of $480.
