Sports wear giant Adidas is set to take on the wareable tech market once again as the company announced a new line of fitness tracker of its own. The new set of "fashion fitness tracker" dubbed as the Adidas Chameleon Fitness Tracker will be launched in 2017.

The new Adidas Chameleon Fitness Tracker will feature a low power e-paper display rather than the LED matrix that the company used before. The tracker connects with a new Adidas All Day app. The app will monitor the track activity, health and sleep metrics. The Germany based company has previously ventured on the wearable tech market before. They collaborated with heart rate specialist Mio and launched two wearable devices. They launched miCoach Smart Run GPS running watch and workout tracker miCoach Fit Smart in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

However, Adidas has not released any information about the GPS, heart rate monitoring and other sport-focused feature on their new wearable tech.

Stacey Burr, VP of wearable sports electronics at Adidas spoke to Wearable.com and stated that "We're not going to see a new running watch from Adidas for a while." Burr said "There will be some additional hardware in the future that we're very excited about but we're looking, on the running side, at how we can bring our algorithms and coaching and training plans to other device platforms, in addition to Smart Run."

Adidas has not given any clear information about the actual moniker that they will use as soon as the Adidas Chameleon Fitness Tracker is launched. The company has already used the Chameleon name for their Adidas trainers before that could indicate customisation for the upcoming tracker.

In a €220 million takeover, Adidas acquired popular running and GPS tracker Runtastic in 2015. It remains to be seen how the acquisition could play out in the new Adidas Chameleon Fitness Tracker and the rest of its wearable technology platform.
