Donald Trump U-Turns On Climate Change Stand

For the longest time, Donald Trump insisted that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese to get the United States to suppress its own manufacturing sector. Last week in Morocco, a Chinese official attending the climate summit prompted a rebuttal, saying that climate change is real.

Whether or not this was the reason Trump changed his stance on climate change, nobody could tell. But according to The New York Times, it seems that he is backing away from the hoax theory, saying instead that there may be "some connectivity" between human activity and climate change. He even went so far as to add that he wants to keep an "open mind" regarding the pull of the United States out of the Paris Agreement.

It is still unclear whether or not Trump will actually support the policies of the deal to limit the effects of climate change in the United States after he is going to be sworn to the presidency in January. However, officials from China have said that they will move on forward with the climate policies with or without the support of the U.S.

Still, if Donald Trump calls for a withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, media tycoon and former mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg will take it upon himself to urge American cities to continue enacting the climate policies. As noted by Bloomberg, he said in an op-ed article, "The U.S.'s success in fighting climate change has never been primarily dependent on Washington."

Michael Bloomberg also pointed out that the success of the U.S. in reducing emissions had been driven by cities, businesses and even citizens -- and none of them are planning on letting up. In fact, they are all looking for ways to expand efforts.

Still, Donald Trump will have to learn more about climate change and the Paris Agreement -- his answers to questions regarding climate change and the Paris Agreement had been confusing, or showed, at the very least, that he is confused by them.
