In line with the imminent release of Android's 7.1.1, dubbed Nougat, the Xperia Blog has recently released Sony's statement of the company's aim to be the first third-party manufacturer to roll out phones with the Android update. The online publication mentions that the Xperia development team of Sony has been working around the clock with adapting the firmware into their line of phones as their number one priority.

The team, in jest and in challenge, also stated, "If you spot any other vendor releasing this faster than us, prepare your rotten tomatoes." This is of course excluding Google, the company directly responsible for developing Android 7.1.1 Nougat. For every other company though, Sony is making a bold claim that not only will they be releasing the new updated firmware the earliest, but that the quality of their release will also be peerless.

As of the moment, Sony already has the source code of Android 7.1.1 Nougat ready and is just waiting for the upcoming GMS - the application suite - as well as the Compatibility Test Suite that Google is set to release soon. After the release of those two tools, Sony can already start optimizing the Nougat firmware to work seamlessly with their Xperia line of smart phones and tables.

The competition is stiff though, as Android 7.1.1 has already arrive on Google's own Android One and there have been recent factory images released featuring the upcoming new models for the Nexus and Pixel lines of devices, both of which are also owned by Google. As it is though, Sony is looking to be the frontrunner in the Nougat race when it comes to third-part manufacturers.

That said, sources have mentioned that it is only a matter of time before other companies start getting on the Andorid 7.1.1 bandwagon. Samsung recently released a statement expressing its aim to bounce back from the recent exploding battery debacle with a new line of Nougat ready devices.
